 Our score

**8.2** /10

Mini Metro is a very good fit for players who like diagnosing bottlenecks and trying another layout. Its direct line-drawing controls make the transport problem approachable, and its paid model avoids purchasing your way out of overcrowding. It is less suited to a two-minute break or someone expecting a sequence of puzzles with permanent solutions. We score the underlying design highly, but slow-building runs, small-screen precision, and documented Android audio and license-check problems keep it below an unqualified recommendation.

The essentials

## What is Mini Metro?

Buy Mini Metro if you enjoy improving a system more than finishing a fixed puzzle. You connect differently shaped stations, then revise the routes as the city grows. A line that reaches every stop can still fail if its trains take too long to return. Our research-based assessment favors that readable cause and effect, while qualifying the slow opening of each run. This page covers the standalone Android and iOS game; Mini Metro+ is the separate Apple Arcade edition. GamesRanker has not tested the current phone builds.

### Why it stands out

* Route layout exposes the tradeoff between reaching more stations and returning to them quickly
* Direct touch editing and pausing leave room to inspect a struggling network
* Scored, endless, and creative modes suit different attitudes to pressure
* Standalone pricing avoids ads and repeat purchases of gameplay resources

### What to consider

* Runs take time to become demanding, weakening the fit for very brief breaks
* Growing networks require precise map editing on a small screen
* Scored play ends in overload rather than a permanently solved city
* Android has documented Bluetooth audio and purchase-verification caveats

Is it for you?

## Should you download it?

 Best for

Players who enjoy looking at a queue, identifying the bottleneck, and testing a different allocation of trains. Choose it over a fixed-path puzzle when you want the same rules to produce fresh decisions, rather than a story leading to a final solution.

 Think twice if

You want immediate action, comfortable one-handed play, or clear chapter completion. Monument Valley 3 is the closer catalogue comparison for authored spatial puzzles; Balatro is a different option when building combinations appeals more than editing a map in real time.

Score details

## Why Mini Metro scored 8.2

We score both the game itself and how well this version works on a phone or tablet.

### Fun

Route length, transfers, and scarce trains create competing answers to the same crowding problem. Valentin's iPad review explains why a new upgrade can change the whole plan. We value that adaptability, while recognizing that players wanting a final, solved layout may tire of rebuilding.

**8.8**

### Phone experience

Drawing the route directly is a strong touchscreen match. Bird's warning about the long buildup matters more on a phone used in brief gaps. Pausing helps with decisions, but does not turn each run into an immediate challenge; map inspection and careful dragging also ask more attention than a single swipe.

**7.8**

### Value

The checked standalone prices buy a repeatable planning problem rather than a small set of one-use answers. That is strong value for someone who likes score improvement. It is less compelling if you already have access through a subscription or find repeating the early buildup unrewarding.

**9.0**

### Performance

The modest iOS download and maintained builds are useful, but the Android listing warns of Bluetooth audio incompatibility and records a reinstall-crash fix. The developer also acknowledges false license-check failures. These documented interruptions lower the assessment; we have no current frame-rate, thermal, or battery measurements.

**7.0**

### Ads & purchases

The standalone model sells entry to the game, with no ad watching or extra train purchases advertised. Congestion is a design problem to solve within the run. The remaining access caveat is store verification, rather than spending pressure tied to a failing station.

**9.5**

On mobile

## Features that matter

* 01 Draw and revise routes instead of controlling each train's movement
* 02 Choose upgrades to address capacity, geography, and network reach
* 03 Use Normal for scored pressure, Endless for continued planning, or Creative to build freely
* 04 Extreme mode makes established routes permanent, increasing the cost of an early decision
* 05 Colorblind and night modes change the presentation of the map

Quick answers

## Common questions about Mini Metro on mobile

Straight answers about price, content, offline play, controls, and compatibility.

Can Mini Metro really be played offline? _+_

Google Play labels it offline, but that does not mean every launch works indefinitely without a connection. The developer documents Android checks for a valid purchase or Play Pass subscription roughly monthly, including rare false failures. Open it while connected before relying on it during a trip; current airplane-mode behavior was not tested by GamesRanker.

Should I buy Mini Metro if I have _+_

Usually there is no gameplay reason to buy both: Dinosaur Polo Club describes Mini Metro+ as functionally identical to the standalone game. The difference is subscription access versus a separate store purchase. Do not assume buying the other app also migrates a save; we did not establish that transfer here.

Does Mini Metro have a mode without losing to overcrowding? _+_

Yes. The current listings include Endless and Creative alongside Normal and Extreme. Choose Endless if the appeal is continuing to adjust a network, or Creative if you want more freedom to lay it out. Reviews from the mobile launch predate these later options, so they should not be used as the current mode list.

Why does Mini Metro have no sound through my Android headphones? _+_

The developer's Google Play description warns that some Bluetooth headphones are incompatible. Its suggested workaround is to disconnect the headphones and restart the game. That is a documented workaround, not evidence that every headset will then work or that all audio problems have the same cause.

Does a Mini Metro purchase transfer between Android and iPhone? _+_

No. Dinosaur Polo Club says it cannot share purchased copies between storefronts. A Google Play purchase therefore does not unlock the App Store edition. Treat buying access and moving progress as separate checks; neither the game's familiar name nor its matching icon establishes save transfer.

Store snapshot

## What players are rating

**United States snapshot, September 9, 2026 :** Google Play shows 1M+ downloads and the App Store shows roughly 32,000 ratings. These are separate measures of audience activity, not inputs to our score. The standalone iOS listing is version 1.55; Google's June 2026 update notes a reinstall-crash fix. Historical independent reviews do not establish current-build stability.

 September 9, 2026

Standalone iOS version 1.55, released September 15, 2025, updates the backend without gameplay changes. Google Play shows a June 15, 2026 update fixing a possible crash after reinstalling. We have not benchmarked either current build.

Touch is the supported baseline documented by the developer: drag routes and pinch to inspect the map. We did not establish mobile gamepad support; console controls should not be assumed to apply.

The standalone edition has live paid listings on both US stores. We use October 18, 2016 from the developer's mobile launch history as the release date. Its press-kit factsheet instead says October 17, while Apple's lookup record returns a 2015 date; those conflicting fields are not treated as the public mobile launch.

 Testing evidence

## Independent mobile tests

### Christian Valentin

 iOS

Test device**iPad; model not disclosed** OS version not disclosed

Test scope October 18, 2016 launch review. Describes personal iPad play after earlier PC sessions; build and play duration unspecified.

Valentin describes an initially confusing but rewarding resource-management puzzle. His iPad account supports the value of redrawing routes and choosing scarce upgrades; it does not establish comfort on today's smaller phones.

### Campbell Bird

[Read 148Apps review ↗](https://www.148apps.com/mini-metro/mini-metro-review/)

Mobile; review tagged iOS and Android, tested OS not specified

Test device**Device not disclosed** OS version not disclosed

Test scope October 17, 2016 review covering touch editing, pause, fast-forward, and launch-era modes. No benchmark or play duration given.

Bird finds the presentation calming and the pause control useful, but says each attempt takes a long time to become challenging even with fast-forward. This informs our session-fit caveat, not current battery or stability claims.

### Shaun Musgrave

[Read TouchArcade review ↗](https://toucharcade.com/2016/12/30/mini-metro-review-train-braining/)

 iOS

Test device**Device not disclosed** OS version not disclosed

Test scope December 30, 2016 iOS assessment; exact build and session duration not given.

Musgrave describes straightforward finger-drawn routes and the tension between network reach and journey length. We use this as historical evidence for the touch design and transport tradeoffs, not a current-device benchmark.

Testing is credited to the named reviewers. GamesRanker reviewed their findings for this assessment.
